18 years ago today, J-Roll hit his 100th homer. | Jimmy Rollins 2008 Topps MLB Card
2000's Jimmy Rollins might be criminally underrated. TANK.
The year 2007. Man, just outstanding times. One of the best summers of my life for sure. I played a ton of baseball, traveled to Alaska and had a lot of other great times. Harry Potter was at its peak that year, as a pretty big fan of HP I can't help but think of this. Meanwhile in the baseball world, Jimmy Rollins and the Phillies started to get REALLY good too. Just epic moment after epic moment.
On this day eighteen years ago, 7/7/07, Jimmy Rollins hits his 100th career home run. Hitting your 100th homer on such a satisfying day must have felt pretty special. Lucky number seven! 2007 was Jimmy's greatest season as he won NL MVP. His 30 home runs in 2007 is also a career high for a season.
Four days later, 7/11/07, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix film is released in the USA.
Two weeks after J-Roll's 100th homer, 7/21/07, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the final Harry Potter book, is released.
Imagine how Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling must have felt during July of 2007. Truly must have felt on top of the world! I know as a kid, this summer was just truly next level for sure. I know Harry Potter isn't sports related but oh well. I guess J.K. and Jimmy both had an excellent 2007.
As a Phillies fan, Jimmy Rollins is hands down a legend. For fifteen years as a Phillie, J-Roll was just a steady player who always seemed to be having fun. One of the best athletes and shortstops I've ever seen and I'm glad I got to grow up watching him play. Funny enough, in Harry Potter, the number seven is supposed to be the most powerful magical number, and so for J-Roll to hit his 100th on 7-7-7 during Harry Potter's biggest summer is pretty crazy.
I, for some reason, could not find a video of Rollins smacking his 100th home run. Weird.
But yeah, this is a pretty great card of one of my favorite players ever. The Phillies would go to the World Series two straight seasons after 2007 winning it all in 2008.
Good times indeed.
