Manglares, lugares hermosos en peligro /Mangroves, beautiful places in danger (ESP/ENG)
Today is a special day, two beautiful dates are celebrated, one of them is Grandfather's Day, the other is the International Day for the defense of the Mangrove Ecosystem, mangroves are beautiful and peculiar places, I have had the privilege of seeing them, even a small sample, since being in Venezuela and facing the Caribbean Sea, the conditions for their existence are given, the areas of my country where there are more mangroves are those near the Orinoco delta, the San Juan River and the Gulf of Paria, there are trees of considerable height. I had the opportunity to appreciate them, being a child, on a trip we made to a Venezuelan tourist destination called Morrocoy a bay, known for its beauty, mangroves have always seemed beautiful to me, what I did not know was its importance and less how threatened they are.
Así, creo que muchos recordaran escenas de películas famosas en las que aparecen manglares, si no me equivocó la Laguna Azul es una de ellas y también Piratas del Caribe y el Cofre de la Muerte, cuando se adentran para ir a visitar a Tía Dalma, ese rio rodeado por árboles con raíces peculiares que parecieran salir del agua es un manglar.
Ahora bien, ¿Qué papel juegan los mangles en el planeta? Les compartiré de manera textual una información que encontré ya que no quiero que se pierdan nada, ya que es muy importante, el papel de estos ecosistemas:

Now, what role do mangroves play on the planet? I will share with you some information that I found because I don't want you to miss anything, as it is very important, the role of these ecosystems:
Los manglares son bosques de mangle, unos árboles que viven semisumergidos en las marismas litorales de algunas zonas tropicales y subtropicales. Se forman en bahías, lagunas costeras de aguas salobres y en los estuarios y desembocadura de ríos. Aquí el agua circula muy lentamente y, por tanto, los sedimentos procedentes de tierra adentro se van depositando en el fondo, es una especie de filtro natural que evita que una gran cantidad de materia orgánica llegue a los arrecifes de coral. Además, con la fijación de sedimentos se crea tierra firme nueva.
Los manglares proporcionan madera de gran calidad, muy resistente a la putrefacción, sus aguas tienen una gran productividad, que supera a la de muchos otros ecosistemas costeros, además contribuyen a prevenir la erosión del litoral y a mitigar el efecto de los grandes temporales puesto que constituyen verdaderas defensas costeras naturales.
Mangroves are mangrove forests, trees that live semi-submerged in the coastal marshes of some tropical and subtropical zones. They form in bays, coastal lagoons of brackish water and in estuaries and river mouths. Here the water circulates very slowly and, therefore, sediments from inland are deposited on the bottom, it is a kind of natural filter that prevents a large amount of organic matter from reaching the coral reefs. In addition, sediment fixation creates new dry land.
Mangroves provide high quality wood, very resistant to putrefaction, their waters have a high productivity, which surpasses that of many other coastal ecosystems, they also contribute to prevent coastal erosion and mitigate the effect of large storms since they are true natural coastal defenses.
La formación boscosa del manglar contribuye a la cadena alimentaria marina. Numerosas especies de peces y crustáceos de importancia comercial pasan al menos parte de su ciclo vital en ellos. Posteriormente emigrarán hacia mar abierto donde completarán su desarrollo. Por este motivo no deben considerarse solamente como bosques, sino también como productores de alimentos y de recursos económicos que permiten la vida y el desarrollo de pequeños núcleos de población que viven en estos extensos humedales.
Mangrove forest formation contributes to the marine food chain. Numerous species of commercially important fish and crustaceans spend at least part of their life cycle in them. Later they will migrate to the open sea where they will complete their development. For this reason they should not only be considered as forests, but also as producers of food and economic resources that allow the life and development of small population centers that live in these extensive wetlands.
Precisamente, por esto último, la riqueza en cuanto a alimentación se refiere, que tiene lugar en los manglares, los pone en riesgo ya que, no es lo mismo un pequeño poblado que vive en las cercanías y pueda sustentarse con ellos t explotarlos de una manera artesanal, a que una empresa, quiera explotar los recursos presentes de estos ecosistemas, lo que ha traído como consecuencia, daño, deterioro y hasta la desaparición de algunos.
El 26 de julio fue elegido, en memoria del activista ambiental de nombre Hayhow Daniel Nanoto, quien murió de un paro cardiaco en esa fecha en el año1998, pero solo en el 2015, en la Conferencia General de la Unesco, se pidió formalmente a este organismo que se decretará el 26 de julio como “Día Internacional de la defensa del Ecosistema Manglar”, propuesta que fue aprobada al siguiente año, es decir, esta fecha internacional, es de reciente creación, apenas 5 años.

July 26 was chosen in memory of the environmental activist named Hayhow Daniel Nanoto, who died of a heart attack on that date in 1998, but only in 2015, at the General Conference of Unesco, it was formally requested to this body to decree July 26 as "International Day for the Defense of the Mangrove Ecosystem", a proposal that was approved the following year, that is, this international date is of recent creation, just 5 years.
On the other hand, the purpose of this decree is to avoid the progress of companies that seek to trade with nature, at the cost of its detriment or damage, due to the exploitation of mangroves, a high percentage of them have already disappeared in the world; these ecosystems are found in tropical and subtropical regions of the planet, because that is where they find the right conditions for their development.
En conclusión, para los que hemos tenido el privilegio de ver personalmente estos ecosistemas sabemos lo hermosos que son, pero luego de conocer su función y papel dentro del ecosistema, estoy segura de que será admirado aún más, no solo por su belleza, sino también por su importancia. Los manglares, son como un tesoro infravalorado. Como bien dices, muchísimas especies de importancia comercial pasan una o varias etapas de desarrollo dentro de los manglares, es lamentable ver que cada vez el porcentaje de cobertura de los manglares es menor. Gran post como siempre @actioncats!🐬😄
Yo no sabia que los calamares tienen estrecha relación con los manglares, entre tantos otras especies, o con filtran el agua, solo me parecían lindos, pero ignoraba muchos aspectos, el descubrir esta fechas me ha permitido descubrir información valiosa que vale la pena compartir.
