SUPER CZECH DESTROY TEN-MAN NETHERLANDS

Netherlands started the brighter of the two sides with the first big chance falling to Matthijs De Ligt who latched on to a fantastic Daley Blind cross but put his bullet header wide from a tight angle. However, Czech Republic grew in confidence as the first-half went on and arguably had the best chance to score via Antonín Barák who was denied by De Ligt’s

The second-half started with plenty of attacking intent from both sides. The game changed when De Ligt saw given a red card. Patrik Schick appeared to be through on goal before De Ligt slapped the ball away with his hand resulting in oppressive play from Czech players.

Following the red card, the Czech Republic saw far more of the ball and finally got their breakthrough with 20 minutes left to play. Tomáš Kalas found room in the penalty box to connect with a nicely struck free kick and headed the ball to Tomáš Holeš, who did brilliantly to nod the ball into the net.

Schick then sealed the tie on the 80 minute mark with a lovely finish in the bottom left hand corner. Holeš was at the right place at the right time when he cut the ball back towards Schick who then coolly slotted the ball into the net to make the 2-0 win in favour of Czech Republic. The result sees the Czech Republic travel to Baku to face Denmark in a quarter-final rematch from Euro 2004.

Its was a bad day for Netherlands. Those lads were simply humiliated, the one man down syndrome affected them a great deal..
