Day two of Maple syrup!🤗
Four plus hours yesterday, and another four hours today!😅
Silvertop is so very glad we bought this Turkey fryer!
Originally we were just going to give this a try with our old Colman gas camping stove.
Lol……….🤣
That would never have worked!😲
In the third photo we switched to a stock pot. The nine gallons of sap had boiled down to about one and one half gallons.
Look at the golden color, and when we ladle out a sample it is becoming sticky!😊
We started to suspect that the glass hydrometer that we just had delivered courtesy of Amazon, was cracked!😲
Some people use a candy thermometer, and when the boiling temperature reaches 219 degrees Fahrenheit the Maple syrup is finished!
We also knew that 40 gallons producers 1 gallon of syrup.
Hmmm………Liz we are close!😇
Samples pulled were becoming much sticker, and definitely Maple syrup sweet to the taste!

One more final filter through a cone coffee filter, and into sterilized mason jars!
This has been an awesome adventure!
The Maple trees have all but stopped flowing, I believe we are at the end of the season.
Next year we will be better prepared, with a candy thermometer, a new maple syrup hydrometer, and plenty of buckets!😇
We ended with two Mason jars totaling approx 28 ounces.
One we will freeze, Maple syrup doesn’t freezer burn, or 100% freeze, and keeps indefinitely! The second jar, I think Liz and Silvertop are going to enjoy on Belgium waffles and pancakes next weekend!🤗
