A weird story to motivate you.

Disclaimer: The story I'm about to share is a weird one! However, somewhere in the weirdness, I hope you find one or two lessons useful.

I can't remember exactly how old I was but my mom came home sad after work one day.

"Bukunmi, anty Lagbaja is dead." She went on to tell us how they spent the entire morning in her house and all.

Thing is, she was unmarried and lived alone, so her colleagues at work had to take care of the body.

Mom said they met her "prepared." Like she knew she was going to die overnight or something.

How? Everything was filed and arranged. Documents, clothes, money, shoes. No mess anywhere in the apartment. Remember I stated before I started it's a weird story?

It wasn't like she would know if everything was disorganized & people were talking about, but my young mind registered it. I decided then that not just my room but my life will be organized so I don't leave a mess for people to tidy after me.

Not just in death.

Can your colleagues easily step into your shoes if you leave your work place today? Documentation/organization is important.

How then can one stay organized?

  • Always have a to-do list; this keeps you on your toes & ensures you don't leave anything unsorted. Make sure you update it regularly.

  • Prioritize; use colours or markers or sticky notes to highlight your important, necessary & not so important or necessary schedule.

  • Create a workable pattern for yourself.

  • Do things as they come; never procrastinate as this can lead to piling up.

  • Plan for everything; make sure there's room for everything e.g. milk always goes in the fridge, wig always stay on the stand, clothes always in the wardrobe, etc. It makes it easier for people around you to follow your routine when you have one.

  • Finally, learn to let go; once things have served their purpose, if you can't recycle them, dispose them. This helps with space management.

Do this habitually for some time and see how much better and less messy your life would be.

I understand it's weird because it talks about death but then your writing carries alot of truth, organization is important in life, somehow it makes life easier and a working principle to guide future goal. As much as organization seems easy, it's one of the hardest things to accomplish in life. Thanks for this piece.
