# 892 - Canadian Wildlife - Part 9

avatar

We will continue the series called "Canadian Wildlife".

The Royal Canadian Mint is known by its high quality work and the enormous number of commemorative coins issued each year. Among these commemoratives we find many, individual or in series, under the theme "wildlife".

Canada, with its vast lands and seas, is the home of a varied fauna and that will be showed in this series.

I will try to post land animals, sea animals and birds, in that order.

The ninth is a 2014 CAD $10 "Northern Pintail".

In 2013 the Royal Canadian Mint decided to create the "Ducks of Canada" series. It would last three years, with two $10 coins minted each year.

Each coins weights 15.87g with Colored Proof finish and 99.99% silver purity. The mintage was 9,919 units. The issue price was CAD $69.95.

The reverse shows the "Northern Pintail". The northern pintail (Anas acuta) is a duck with wide geographic distribution that breeds in the northern areas of Europe and North America. It is migratory and winters south of its breeding range to the equator.

The reverse was designed by Samantha Strath.

RCM makes beautiful coins. I think that you have the most extensive RCM coin collection around. It must be quite an experience to view your collection. Take care 🥰🌺🤙

That is really a pretty coin! Most of the time, I don't care for the coins that have been colorized, but this one is different somehow. The details of the ducks is nicely done. Thanks for sharing!

A great number of colorized coins are colorized outside the Mint, for example the colorized Silver Eagles. This above was colorized by RCM.
