Ecosia is now available as a default search engine on Brave.

Ecosia is a search engine that uses its profits to plant trees, so far over 115 million trees have been planted. The search results are delivered by Bing and modified by its own algorithm.

Ecosia claims to anonymize the search history within a week, but Bing deletes the search history and IP address provided by searches on Ecosia only after 18 months, according to its privacy policy.

I have been using Ecosia for months and I love the idea but the search results are very bad. Often, I have to switch to Google to look for better results. Also, some results can lead to scams or unofficial sites. I think this is because Bing is behind Ecosia.

I hope the team develops its own engine or use another one.

Yes true, for some searches the results are poor. But I have found that the influence of the user on the results is great, I think that is the key to presenting other people search results that are not shown to them on google.
