SUSPENSE

It was a cold winter night
Outside was wet and freezing
The ambient temperature wasn't for the feeble
Man, it was the peak of the winter

I was all alone in the room
Unusual, my neighborhood was as calm as a graveyard
Boy, even a needle dropped on the floor could be heard
Alas, I found my self all alone

I didn't go with the family for the picnic
I resisted all attempt to join them
A decision I guess, I'm regretting
Only if I had the power to change the present, I muttered.

It was dark and quite
It became obvious I would have to spend the night alone
The family were prevented from coming back
Only made possible by a sudden snow storm

It was minutes before midnight
I could hear strange footsteps
At first, it was slow
Suddenly, it became fast

I became terrified;
It was unusual of me
I haven't been this afraid in my life
Perhaps, it's just a temperature change??
Equivocal to say

Then I heard a bang on the door
Though, it wasn't a heavy one
It almost made my flesh leave my body
It had an unusual rhythm
I couldn't hear any further

The suspense created a mighty fear in me
I imagined death lurking at me
My lightened room became darkened
Pushing my thoughts to expect the worst
Silence was all over me
You could even hear my heart beat
Pumping with anxiety and tremor

Then I heard a loud bark
Lol! Along it was our dog
She has been eager to come stay with me
Oh! I forgot she didn't go with the family -i muttered
Funny but serious;
I almost ruined my night
