Term 3 Homeschooling Begins!

Hi Everyone,

Term 3 of school term started today which also means that our first day of homeschooling begins. As many of you are aware, Sydney is having the Delta Strain COVID outbreak with over 50+ cases each day for the past week. We were mentally prepared that we will have to homeschool but at the through of it coming back from last year has come back to haunt us today. I thought I was mentally prepared, can get into it and get it done but I don't think I can do it. Hubby helped out most of the day and I can't even get through the work in the afternoon. I think Baby E was already mentally exhausted himself and was slowing down with his writing and responding to answers. Before this whole homeschooling started, I said to myself I shouldn't loose my temper and don't want to make Baby E cry but today I lost both my temper and he had teary eyes. I felt bad but we still have to power on the work. I think he was missing his friends so much as his first piece of work he already said he missed his teachers and friends.

Hubby took him upstairs to play soccer under the great weather. I could see hubby was frustrated but he tried to tone down his voice as well but most of the time failed. It was rough for the parents for sure. We have some friends who are also in the same situation and they aren't doing well either mentally as they need to work full time at home plus homeschooling with a full day program. Just giving you an idea what this involves. It means most of the time we are there with our child from 9-3 (depending on your school hours) and go through work, reading, maths, physical activity etc with them. We found this year, it was similar to last year the parent's assistance is required throughout the whole day meaning you don't get to work or do your usual stuff at home. For one week, we probably can barely manage but any longer, I am not sure how we can cope. With infected cases going up each day with over 100 yesterday, I don't see the lockdown to end this Friday and to extend for another 6-8 weeks. Friends from overseas who have gone through this before have warmed us of the extended timing and I was thinking I might as well give up and do what we can rather than follow the schedule.

The child themselves are feeling the need to see their friends, get out of the house and don't need the extra pressure given to them from school. But at the same time, you will feel that you are not doing your child justice if you could have done it and all their friends pushed through. We will try to follow the guide again tomorrow but early talks with hubby we both thought we skip the afterwards session and see we go. The aim is to keep everyone as calm as possible and less tears this time round. We had too many tears last time round and we aim to do better this year. Fingers crossed the lockdown doesn't extend for much longer or else we will be in some bit of trouble.

Based on what I read in this post, you are already in it.
I wish you all the best. Hopefully you can return to your normal life soon. We already returned to the normal life in Hungary. The masks are no longer mandatory/required to wear. Not even in the buildings.
