Surviving Lockdown, Vaccinations & Day Off Over Hardfork?

Hi Everyone,

What a day for many Australians the last 24-48 hours. As the COVID numbers are surging, everything are in confusion what advice to listen to from our government in terms of vaccinations. On top of that, those who have kids have their little ones stuck at home as school holidays are happening but all our activities planned have been cancelled. Many have been glued to the news to see what we should be doing and if numbers are getting higher with a chance of our lockdown to be extended. I'm dreading the thought of having home schooling in 10 days or so if things don't improve. Some schools have already sent out emails to advise parents they are ready for home schooling so it is a matter of time I will receive that email from our school. With the Delta strain hitting our shores, school kids are now one of the easier hit targets with a number of schools are affected in the eastern side of Sydney.

As I live on the north side of the bridge, our numbers have been pretty good as most of the infected cases are from the east and west but today we finally have been hit. Chatswood considered the hub of the shops now has cases and its a matter of time we have more hotspots up north. I haven't stepped outside for 5 days and have been trying to order grocery on line but doesn't help that essentials like eggs have been sold out online. Toilet paper once again is hot property where I still don't know why people need to order toilet paper rather than food. The other thing getting busy would be online shopping like Amazon, us alone we received 5 packages already. Food delivery like Uber and Doordash are super busy but I am glad I have joined their free delivery deal so we are making more orders than usual.

With more states having hard lockdowns and closing boarders, the Prime Minister have announced late Monday night that anyway under 40s can take the AstraZeneca vaccine which has been known to have more side effect for the younger population but the Prime Minister said it is now possible. Before this announcement, citizens over 60 can take AstraZeneca but with this new announcement it has caused much confusion. Most people under 60s are recommend to take Pfizer with slots opened up for those over 40s recently. The Queensland Premier was not happy with this new announcement and have told her people to not take AstraZeneca if you are under 60. Our Premier in NSW also said they suggest that those under 60 should consider Pfizer but if you really want to take the option announced by the Prime Minster you have to consult with your doctor.

This conflicting information has confused everyone and added unnecessary stress for those in whatever situation they are in. It is a bit worrying where different parts of the government is giving different advice, who should we listen to? Who is to blame if we decide to take AstraZeneca and have all these side effects or worst case die? Pretty crappy situation at the moment we are in. I guess it is time to step away from the computer and do something relaxing like a puzzle or colouring books. The HIVE hardfork is coming up in a few hours, lets hope it goes smoothly and I'll use this time to do something a little different and make sure to enjoy the time with the little ones while they are at home.

It starts to feel like you guys in Australia are 1 year behind our schedule. Hope you don´t get the same numbers like in europe soon. Still hoping that I can visit Australia again one day.

I think we were too relaxed with the vaccination and now when things happen, everyone is trying to do as much as they can. Those under 40 can't even get their first jab (they only opened up under 50s 2 weeks ago or so). Fingers crossed it won't get that bad.

Hope you have been well and stay safe :)

We have been all over the place with the lockdowns and things are very messy here
We have all kinds of conflicting messages about vaccines and SOPs

My boys (the girl handled it better but she is older) are struggling with online learning (and that means me too haha)

Right now it is really one day at a time
Stay safe and here's to everything getting to some sort of norm soon

I've heard about you guys too. It's like whatever goes on the day and that is the way. Home schooling is dreadful... at least your kids are older than mine but I can get how it can be hard for everyone regardless of age.

Take care, big hugs and stay safe :)

I am also still wondering why one should be crazy about toilette paper instead of foods where there are still another option for cleaning up. It is not like we are lacking water afterall. I know that habit is hard to change but sometimes compromise is necessary and using water when paper is missing is not a bad compromisse anyhow.
Btw... here we also have changing of policy constantly depends on the infection daily rate.
Started from July our state will reduce the strictness... Hopefully it will get better and better.

I'm glad things are getting better on your side of the world. I think this is new for everyone so the government is trying their best to get everyone back on track for a somewhat normal life.

Big hugs to you guys and stay safe :)

Big hugs to you too and stay safe always. I finally got my first dose of vaccine yesterday, My arm was numb for a while, that's all the side effect I experienced :).
I hope things will get better soon.
My daughter's kindergarten has already reduced the safety measure too, she will get the breakfast buffet again starting monday nextweek, 2 groups (fixed ones) are now allowed to play together but parents are still not allowed to go inside the building.
