The Blurry Universe

The world around us seems so concrete.
It seems so real.

Real, as in terms of straight boundaries.
No room for misinterpretation...

By the time I started getting into cooperative business,
I began to understand that nature is much different than the senses can perceive.

Our 5 senses include seeing, smelling, tasting, touching & hearing.
These 5 senses are what allows us to connect to the world around us.

A funny saying is that "we don't experience the world, we experience our mind & nervous system."

Well, these 5 senses have their boundaries.
It can just perceive soo much.
And then, perception becomes limited...

I can see the computer that I am writing on with my physical eyes.
But I cannot see the wifi signals that my laptop is using.

The wifi signals are not able to be picked up with the limitations of my vision.
That does not mean the signals do not exist.

A similar analogy is with binoculars.
With binoculars, you can see the bird chilling on the tree.
But you cannot see other planets in the solar system.

Why?

Because the boundary of the binoculars is limited.
That does not negate the existence of the other planets.

Anyways, by the time I enrolled in the Co-operative Business program in undergraduate.
I came to realize how much our class utilized models.

A model is a representation of the original.
It does not claim to BE the original.
It is more so a representation.

'Why do we use models?'
We use models to create frameworks in order to reach rational conclusions.

If models consistently lead us to erroneous insights, then we will evolve the model, test the model and/or throw away the model.

But when I started to see how much models were leveraged not only in my business classes, but also my business jobs...
I began to realize that the world is not as concrete as we think.

We can use these models to lead to what are concrete actions.
But the models are just a representation.

Let me give you a non-engineering example real quick.
An example that pertains to social skills.

A good social skills model is to make strong eye contact to showcase confidence.
Right?
"Right."

This is a social skills model that can lead to tangible benefits in your workplace.
Other co workers view you as a stand up guy.
They feel like they can trust you & you are confident. This ultimately leads you to getting a promotion.

An intangible model led to a tangible result.

But on the flipside, you take this social skills model to some places in the Eastern part of the world & they will view it as disrespect.
In certain Eastern cultures, it's rude to hold eye contact with someone older than you unless they give you permission.

In this context, the social skills model did not lead to a good result.

Models are blurry.
And reality is blurry as well.

The more you zoom into something that SEEMS concrete, the fuzzier that everything gets.

This is a reason why the human needs to constantly be evolving.
Rather than clinging for life to mental models that worked for them in the past.

In the social skills example, use the mental model of eye contact when it works & modify when you can spot discomfort in the other party.
Seems simple to say.
It's hard to execute.

I like writing these blog posts & articles, because it's an insight into my mental models growing up.

Your body represents physical reality.
Your mind represents nonphysical reality.
Just like the body evolves & changes.
The mind too evolves & changes.

A lot of these books that were relevant in the Co-op business classes will evolve in the next couple of years.

That's not to say what we have been learning is wrong.
Instead, what we have been learning will serve as a spring board for the next evolution of models.

As technology grows & becomes more refined, our models will be forced to grow.
I cannot see invisible waves.
I cannot see other planets and stars..
But there is technology that certainly can...

It's foolish to say technology is done evolving.
Nope.
It's in it's infant stages.
I'm sure the more technology evolves, the blurrier everything will get.
The more we will be forced into a humble attitude.

That's how evolution works.
The world is designed to lower it's entropy.
Lower the disorder.
Become more organized.

And a lot of times, behind that organization, is that blurry universe staring back at us.
A blurry universe that gears your mind to become a lifelong learner.

It's your hive communities and tribes networker...

Nice write up. Technology development has not reach its peak. Research is always on going on how to keep improving and developing technology that will help to make the world a better place.

Your body represents physical reality.
Your mind represents nonphysical reality.
Just like the body evolves & changes.
The mind too evolves & changes.

the body/mind split is also a model. we're one big soup of senses that happens to "think" that thinking is different than our other processes.
