Confusing dream for reality

Each day brings new hope, new dream and new believe that what you could not achieve yesterday is possible today

You get motivated because you know that a being who is alive can still make things happen.

But like every human, you need to ask yourself, am i really alive?

There is a thin line between reality and illusion. What appears to be real in a second can be an illusion in the next second. At least magicians have proven this to us.

Can you affirmatively say what you are reading now is being read in real life and not dream? Perhaps, you are wondering is this guy serious?

Ask yourself also, have i not slept and saw my self peeing in a gutter only to wake up and discover i just bed wet?

Were you able to differentiate the illusory state of the dream from the reality that you are on your bed sleeping?

Was dream world different from real world? Is there anything to suggest they don't look alike?

I guess your answer is no. So you are probably sleeping but thinking you are reading this post in a real life.

They (dreams) just come. Sometimes from what you were thinking before sleeping and sometimes you can't explain it.

Let's try explain dream. Dream comes like images while sleeping. A dream comes with ideas and emotions which comes like a flash. It is not something you planned or voluntarily want to see.

If this above is granted as what dreams entails, what gives you the assurance that that my writeup you are reading right now is not one of the images your dream is bringing to you?

In Philosophy, Rene Descartes, a French and modern philosopher theorised on the topic.

Descartes believes that human senses cannot be trusted. They have deceived him once and for that reason, any idea or knowledge from them should not be trusted.

Descartes point is that what we see are not always real and as such should not trust our senses which we use see, hear, touch and the rest while sleeping.

You can dream that you are very wealthy, without realizing you are dreaming.

It is even possible to have a dream contained in another dream with you not being aware that your dream took you to another dream which your first dream is not even aware of.

There is no gainsaying in the fact that you might be dreaming presently. The reason for this is that it is hard to differentiate the two.

Or have you not heard/seen how people who won visa lottery felt like they were dreaming? You hear them say please wake me up from this dream.

Or someone who thinks his life is better than what what it was before and is about to change for good only to be woken up by his friend or mother?

Or have you not dreamt of having a live chat with that crush of yours only to wakeup from your sleep and realise you've been dreaming all along?

Or have you not dreamt of being in school and studying with your friends only to wakeup to the reality that the school is not on session?

All these scenarios simply point to the fact that dreaming and reality look alike. You cannot adequately differentiate them.

Perhaps, you can try convince me that you are not presently dreaming.

What would your argument be? That you know you woke up this morning, took your bath, ate and did some house chores.

Are these things not also possible in dreams? Is it the case that a dreamer cannot have similar experiences like yours?

I would like to read some of your views on how you think one can adequately separate dream from real world.

Thanks for your time.

It's odd. I have incredibly lucid dreams. In class once, they asked us how many people dream in color. Me and a few others raised our hands, while the majority didn't. I was surprised to find that so many people dream in black and white.

The vividness causes me wake up realising only then that it was but a dream.

Researchers say it's possible we are all living in a massive simulation anyway, with no way to know...

Oh wow! Honestly, you would have been very convinced you were not sleeping until you woke up.

I sometimes look forward to when someone will tap me and say 'wake up'!

I am sure many wish the pandemic out there is a dream. I wish it's too.
