Health Benefits of Brown Rice

Rice has been a composite diet of human race since ages. For many people around the world, especially in Asia, Rice has been the main source of calories since prehistoric times. Early literature in China, Thailand and Myanmar has mentioned the growth of rice, while it was cultivated in India as early as 3000 B.C. In most parts of Asia rice has religious value and is offered to gods before prayers.

Amongst the many variations of rice cultivated in various parts of the world Brown Rice is at the top of the ladder mainly for it nutritious value. As Brown Rice is rich in Vitamins and minerals it has many health benefits.

Before discussing the health benefits of brown rice let us first understand Brown Rice and the nutritive value of Brown Rice. After the husk is removed from the paddy, it is left with a brownish layer which is called Bran. This brown Rice is furthered polished to get rid of the germs and the brownish layer (bran) to get white rice. Polishing the rice increases the physical durability of the product but removes original nutrients and the nutrient-rich embryo. So brown rice is basically unpolished rice obtained after removing the husk from the paddy.

Health Benefits of Brown Rice

Brown Rice is rich in Vitamin B, Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), Vitamin K and Calcium. Riboflavin, thiamine and niacin which are rich in Vitamin B as found profoundly in Brown Rice. Minerals like Calcium, Iron, manganese, phosphorous and selenium are found in Brown Rice. Brown Rice unlike white rice is low in fat and cholesterol.

So the nutritive value of Brown Rice supplies various health Benefits to the body. The high content of Vitamin B nurtures the skin and blood vessel. The Mineral enriches the healing properties of the body, normalizes blood pressure and sustains normal heartbeat. The calcium in Brown Rice soothes the nervous System and relieves from hypertension, keeping the mind and body calm. The Iron content makes certain a healthy blood circulatory system. Due to the low fiber content Brown Rice is even used to treat Diarrhea in Children.

So brown rice provides various Vitamins and minerals to body and increase the body metabolism unlike white rice which in nothing more than refined starch.
