We are Our Problem

Early this morning I had gone downstairs to go buy some stuff when I realized that the whole price of everything has skyrocketed and when I made more enquiries as to why the prices were that high, they gave me the famous reply which is usually accompanied with this type of questions, fuel is expensive.

Recently, the country got hit with another wave of fuel scarcity which made gas stations increase the prices of the fuel they had left, not because they had to but because they wanted to make use of the situation to earn more. The sad thing is every shop decided to add more prices to everything they sell even before the fuel scarcity problem got to our state. One raw egg is now almost the price of a full chicken.

The reason why I say we are our problem is because after all of this fuel scarcity thing finally goes away, one would expect the prices of everything to go back to normal but it won’t. The retail shops owner have tasted money and they will keep it that way even though there isn’t a reason for them to increase the prices anymore.

The truth is we are always looking for ways to exploit ourselves while consistently blaming the government for everything. In my hostel, I and a couple of people recently found out that we were paying more than we should pay as rent. The caretaker had added some extra amount to the initial payment for her personal use. We had also found out that the reason why she evicted a lot of people from the hostel early this year was because she found out that they knew her secret and had wanted to approach the landlord about it, so she had done the only thing she could do, she asked them to leave.

I know if this was a country where the laws were all taken seriously, there would be a law somewhere preventing her from evicting them without a proper six months notice but nothing’s working over here, no one gives a shit. Everyone’s just busy thinking about themselves. The whole country is more like the survival of the fittest and though it far more better than a lot of other countries out there, we just have a long way to go when it comes to corruption and trust me, I’m not talking about the government.

It is not only the problem of your country, I think this is the problem of every country. Because same situation is here in our country. Shopkeepers increase the rates of everything before increase in fuel price and when fuel price decrease the prices of other things remain same.

Nawa for this country. Aswear most especially transportation. I am definitely sure when the prices of fuel comes back to normal, there would be probably bringing down the prices of fuel in for transport.

We all complain but yet, we are the causes of our own problems
