I invite you to take a walk through one of the most impressive places I have ever known, not only because of the beauty of the place, but because it is loaded with history and a lot of culture. Today I bring you a nice walk through the FORTALEZA DE SAO JOSE DE PONTA GROSSA.

La función de la fortaleza era defender la parte norte de la isla de una invasión portuguesa. Junto con las fortalezas de Anhatomirim y Ratones formaban un triángulo que impedía el desembarco de las tropas invasoras. Estas tres fortalezas estaban dotadas de gran poder de artillería con el objetivo de defender su territorio.

The function of the fortress was to defend the northern part of the island from a Portuguese invasion. Together with the fortresses of Anhatomirim and Ratones they formed a triangle that prevented the landing of invading troops. These three fortresses were equipped with great artillery power in order to defend their territory.

El lugar conjuga un paisaje realmente bellisimo, con mucha historia. A su alrededor podemos observar una densa vegetación, propio de lugares tropicales. En el recorrido por la fortaleza los guías cuentan la historia de tal manera que es inevitable no transportarse en el tiempo y vivir aquellos momento como si estuviese sucediendo en ese momento.

The place combines a really beautiful landscape, with a lot of history. Around it we can observe a dense vegetation, typical of tropical places. During the tour of the fortress, the guides tell the story in such a way that it is inevitable not to be transported in time and live those moments as if they were happening at that moment.

La construcción de la fortaleza se comenzó en el año 1740 en una zona muy alta de la isla que la hacía inaccesible para quienes quisieran ingresar desde la costa. Para optimizar la defensa la construcción tiene unos muros muy altos para dificultar aún más el acceso a este lugar estratégico.

The construction of the fortress began in the year 1740 in a very high area of the island that made it inaccessible to those who wanted to enter from the coast. In order to optimize the defense, the construction has very high walls to make access to this strategic place even more difficult.

En el recorrido por la Fortaleza es posible observar el calabozo y la casa de la guardia. A medida que uno avanza se pueden observar los cañones, la iglesia, el cuartel, y la casa de quien estaba al mando de la fortaleza. E el recorrido por el interior del fuerte se exponen gran cantidad de vajillas y utensilios utilizados en la época.

During the tour of the Fortress it is possible to see the dungeon and the guard house. As one advances one can observe the cannons, the church, the barracks, and the house of the one who was in charge of the fortress. And the tour inside the fortress shows you a large number of dishes and utensils used at the time.

El lugar es visitado por una importante cantidad de turistas quienes no solo van a disfrutar de las paradisíacas playas que ofrece la isla de Florianópolis, sino que también se interesa muchísimo por el patrimonio histórico y cultural del lugar, conociendo un poco de la historia y disfrutando de las divertidas anécdotas que comparten los guías.

The place is visited by an important amount of tourists who not only go to enjoy the paradisiacal beaches that the island of Florianópolis offers, but also are very interested in the historical and cultural heritage of the place, knowing a little of the history and enjoying the funny anecdotes that the guides share.

Las vistas que se pueden apreciar es hermosa ya que está en uno de los puntos más altos de la isla, desd donde se pueden observar gran cantidad de aves y fauna terrestre del lugar y una muy densa vegetación gracias a la humedad del lugar.

The views that can be appreciated are beautiful since it is in one of the highest points of the island, from where you can observe great quantity of birds and terrestrial fauna of the place and a very dense vegetation thanks to the humidity of the place.

La fortaleza estuvo abandonada por muchos años y allá por el año 1990 comenzó un período de restauración y puesta en valor del lugar como parte del patrimonio artístico e histórico de Brasil.

The fortress was abandoned for many years and around 1990 a period of restoration and enhancement of the site began as part of Brazil's artistic and historical heritage.
