Marcus Rashford Won The Hearts Back.

A lot has been said about Marcus Rashford's dip in form as many are more concerned about his political involvement. He came up to deliver the goods with fellow substitutes helping out to give Manchester United the needed 3 points with one game outstanding still left to play.

Manchester United dominated the game but West Ham caused them a lot of problems to the United side too but just couldn't get the goal. United left it late before getting the goal to get the stadium rocking. United broke into the top 4 for the first time since October and would hope to kick on from there.

Declan Rice stole the ball off Bruno Fernandes but he was unable to do anything with it as he was snuffed out by the defence. United had a breakthrough of their own when Greenwood was found at the edge of the box. With Ronaldo waiting inside the box, Greenwood chose to go for the goal himself and he wasted it.

Both teams had a series of half-chances which they didn't make good use of and it was easily gathered or blocked by the defence. Ronaldo's struggle on freekick duties continued after he faltered from one just outside the box after Bruno Fernandes was brought down by Coufal.

United had a much better and decent chance in the 20th minute after Bruno Fernandes cleverly delivered a cross into the box with a perfectly time movement from Ronaldo to beat the offside trap but he wasn't fast enough to get his head on the ball as the chance went begging. What a goal that would have been. Both teams were restricted to half chances and it wasn't an inspiring first half for both sides.

Fred has a decent chance in the 49th minute after the ball managed to find him and he struck the ball cleanly but Areola was equal to the task on goal as he forced a corner kick. Bowen latched onto a loose ball at the edge of the box after a corner kick was half cleared and it found him. He was unable to direct his effort goal-ward but he found the side of the net instead.

United dominated proceedings and were on the front foot for most of the time. Varane should have done better with Alex Telles' corner-kick delivery but he steered his header off target. Elanga had another audacious effort on the edge of the box but it was not a threat to Areola and that was his last action before he was replaced by Marcus Rashford.

Marcus Rashford should also have done better with the pass he received from the clever and fast feet of Cristiano Ronaldo albeit from a tight angle and he miscues his effort. West Ham weren't devoid of their flashes of brilliance as Bowen surging run almost led to a goal as he ran the length of the field unchecked only to be nullified by Telles' touch.

Manchester United wasted another glaring chance just outside the box after Varane found Rashford with a long pass inside the box. He managed to head it and the ball managed to fall to Bruno Fernandes who had the choice of passing or striking the ball cleanly but his effort went way over the bar instead much to the disappointment of the fans.

Manchester United escaped an attempt from West Ham after Bowen's corner-kick delivery was met by Soucek. His header was steered off target as well much to the relief of United players and fans alike.

Manchester United had two late chances to get the much-needed goal but the attempts were poor. The first was from Ronaldo after Fernandes picked him out inside the box but he horridly got his shot off but it lacked power and precision. Martial came on earlier and despite his lovely attempts on the side, he was found in the box yet again by Fernandes and his tame effort was easily snuffed out but West Ham couldn't do anything to prevent what's to come in the 93rd minute.

Ronaldo did so well to draw defenders to himself before laying the pass to Martial who also did so well to hold up play and pick out Cavani just at the edge of the box. Cavani beat the offside trap to get to the ball and pick out fellow substitute; Rashford who was lurking in the box to tap the ball into the empty net in the 93rd minute with Areola cleverly beaten.

The substitutes did the job for United with Martial, Cavani and Rashford influencing the result to get United the much needed 3 points to break into the top 4, displacing West Ham at least pending the time Arsenal and Tottenham would play.
