Longest run this year to complete January century! - Evening Run
I just finished a 16.823km running that lasted about 1hh:17mm:45ss !
Like I said last time, I needed 15km to reach a hundred for the month, so when I got started for my run yesterday, that was my secret hope, but I really didn't know if I had it in me. Well, as the title suggests, I did manage to get over this distance, and for good measures, I even added a couple more kilometers to finish January with 102km! On top of that, I got a couple achievements in Strava, as my pace was better than what I thought it would be on such distance. With my current form, under 7:30 min/mile and over 15km is a bit surprising to me, but a good surprise of course.
The day was really sunny and milder, but once again I ended up running long after the sun was gone. I don't know why it keeps happening. Temperature was still a bit warmer than the last few days, but at -6 degrees Celsius colder than I thought. For a minute, I almost regretted going back to wearing only shorts, and not my running compression tights under. With the sun during the day, some snow started to melt and was now re-icing, making some areas a bit tricky. I slipped a few times, but nothing too bad luckily. I started exactly the same as last run, but I first added a couple of blocks East and then South. As I still felt pretty well, I then headed North till I hit the next major intersection. That part sucked a bit because I had to follow one of the major roads. Sidewalk was a mix of snow and ice there, that's probably why the pace dropped. And then I kept adding extra loops and ended up with over 10 miles. Quite satisfied with the performance, it shows progress.
With a big snowstorm in the forecast Wednesday and Thursday, I am hoping I can go for a short recovery run today. But it's also supposed to rain tonight before the temperature drops and the snow starts, so not sure I'll find time before. Running later in the week should be fun with all that new snow (if the forecast isn't wrong once again).
After a slow start in January, mostly due to travel and holidays, I finished the month much stronger. Let's see if I can keep that trend up in February.
Till then, keep Exhausting!
