Round Tower, Copenhagen, Denmark

When I visited the Round Tower in Copenhagen, Denmark, my idea was to spend about a half, maybe one hour tops, enjoying the city views from birds point of view. That was because we had only one evening and a night in the capital of Denmark, as this was a "transit point" on our way to the small town of Tromsø in Northern Norway in order to chase the stunning Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis.

However, my idea failed. I spent much more time there, on top of the city with my eyes wide opened. Just to mention that it was not me only as I was there with my friends, also passionate about photography, travel and discovering the beauties of our world.

I am not going to spend your time with history and facts. There is plenty of interesting and detailed information on the wiki page of the tower here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rundetaarn

But as they say, until you see it you cannot properly dip into its magic! I assure you there are so many things about that tower that will amaze you on your first visit. For instance - inside it is a spiral ramp that was designed to bring noble people on top of the building with their vehicles so they don't have to walk. Also, the tower is "merged" with a church so on your way up you are given the opportunities to take a look inside the beautiful church through few interior doors and windows. Impressive stuff!

The best scenes become visible on top of the tower, of course. Now let me walk you through, visually :)

So here is how the tower looks from outside when you approach it from the main street at the central pedestrian-only part of the city:

When entering if you look up you will see that perspective. Wow:

Here is one view towards the church from an interior window when climbing the spiral ramp up. I wonder what would be the feeling of attending a mass in this amazing environment:

Check out that point at the ramp. Those whitewashed curves of the roofs must had taken them a lot of resources and time to build and it looks so tough and beautiful at the same time:

Light inside the tower is provided by such lovely windows. Check out the stone tiles of the floor. It seems built for eternity, right?

Now, on top of the tower at the observation deck. There are few observation points. I didn't bother looking through them as one of my lenses provides enough "zoom" so I capture some details, hehe.

I would say the best time of the day to visit the tower and take some impressive photos is the late afternoon and the evening. The sunset hours would be amazing too. There were a lot of clouds that afternoon but I was actually happy about that as the sky was unique, aiding my pictures in a perfect way. I created lots of silhouette photos that day.

'Cause there are plenty of buildings to be expressed in this way. I was a very cold day in the middle of February with freezing winds and I tried to express that in my photos as well.

One of my favorite compositions, with the modern, old and the magical "Tower of Sauron", if you are a fan of "The Rings" as well :)

360 degree amazing views over the industrial and modern city:

I loved how cultural, religious and industrial buildings blend:

DDH_8634.jpg

Hmmmmm, I suppose someone had tried that, otherwise why the warning:

DDH_8637.jpg

See, another interesting "blend":

If you have the time to search for beautiful details, there are many, here's one reflection:

Such a colorful and rich city:

Zooming in into residential areas also uncovers lovely shapes and colors:

Of course, observing the city life from that latitude is fun too:

The place and the environment have inspired me to create so many photos that day. Not only me, I am quite sure!

I went to the Round Tower the other year, it was like no end to walking up the ramp, it just went on and on and on and on forever! I never realised they built it like that to carry the nobles up in their vehicles. What a lazy bunch!!!!

Hehehe :) That's what I call a good planning ahead :) Lovely views and no pain for them! :) For us, the ordinary tourists... endless climbing up :P But then you get to the top and the views make you forget all the hard efforts, right :D
