Extraordinary medieval mystic

Hello, I haven't posted entries for a long time. I spent the last three days lying weak in bed.

I will take the opportunity that I have a moment to describe this extraordinary person associated with Gdańsk. I was supposed to write about her life from the summer holidays and I had no time for it.
Do you know that Dorota of Mątowy, an extraordinary medieval mystic who was walled up alive in a cell, prayed every day in St. Mary's Church? She was considered a saint by the church, which means that her extraordinary life can serve as an example.

I will divide the article into three entries in connection with the places where Dorota stayed.

She was born in 1347 in the village of Mątowy Wielkie, from an early age she wanted to become a nun, she mortified herself and was deeply religious. Unfortunately, her parents married her as a 16-year-old girl to Adalbert Schwertfeger, a wealthy armorer from Gdańsk, who was almost 20 years old. This man led a riotous lifestyle. He was irritated by his wife's daily visits to the church, and even more so by the fact that she shared his fortune with the poor.

Once he almost beat her to death. Dorothy, however, endured the suffering bravely. Nine children were born from the marriage.

I cannot imagine what my parents experienced, as they lost three children during the epidemic, and five during the next one. There was only one daughter left for Dorota and she entered the convent.
After these traumatic events and due to the enormous love he saw in his wife, Adalbert underwent an internal transformation and set out with Dorota on a pilgrimage to the places of worship of medieval Europe. They visited min. Aachen and Santiago de Compostella. During the pilgrimage, Dorota heard about walling up in cells, the so-called reclosions, deeply spiritual people.

After the death of her husband, with whom she lived for several years in Gdańsk, at ul. Długa 64, she moved to Kwidzyn. Unfortunately, she did not find understanding in Gdańsk. Dorothy was even accused of heresy and threatened with the stake. She found understanding in Kwidzyn.
