This is a very inspiring story and I am glad to hear you are growing...as a writer as and as a person.
I can bet you that your dad didn't just want to hold you back. What I hear you say about your dad is the love of a father. He wants to protect you and have the best for you.
But I am glad you found a way that can be good for both of you. For you to grow and become independent, and for your dad to be proud of you because he can see your achievements and your growth as a person.

You are right sir. He was protecting me and I understand his love for me. I am happy we both got our way, and if we talk about that incident these days, he does so with an air of pride (he shows he is proud of me, every now and then)
