Thrift Store Near the Post Office

About once a week, I check my PO box and sometimes I take the opportunity to visit the local thrift store nearby. I'll sometimes buy candles, or such things. This time I picked up a thermos (for 1.50) and a toy tractor for my son (2.50) and a KJV audio book of the NT on cassette. (2.50)

I got a few other items, all in all, my thrift store purchases were about $11

Also Found an Old Book

While I was going through the book section, I saw an old book in fairly good shape. It was Shakespere's Julius Caesar, copyright 1929.

A little of the book's history is recorded on the front pages. It was a school textbook, used in the 30's and 40's

image.png

It sold as a used book on February 2nd, 1943 for $0.30 (about $5.00 in today's money). I bought it at the thrift store for $0.25 (about $0.02 in 1943 money). Goes to show the difference 80 years can make!!!

You can see all the scribbles on the front page, along with notes in the margins. Clearly this was a school book.

image.png

The note reads "Caesar was killed on 15th of March". That's TODAY!

Found It's Mate on EBay

Just out of curiosity, I looked this book up on ebay to see what it might be worth. I figure it cost me a quarter, surely it's worth more than that.

Someone is selling this exact book for over $20!

The one on ebay also had doodles and writing on it, so it was also a school book. Then I noticed something intersting:

It's from the same school! Sold just a few months after the book I had! And this one is only $0.15 when it sold. Probably because of all the artwork.

Selling My Copy

I listed my book on ebay, but at a better starting bid ($15.00) you can purchase it for 29.99, free shipping!

By the way, $29.99 is only $1.83 in 1943 money!

It looks like an interesting experience. Do people really use cassettes that much? It just feels so old and I would probably just find a copy of it online to listen to instead.

This is an awesome coincidence.

Speaking of coincidences, my sister once lost her ring while on a boat. It went deep into the river. A whole three years later, we bought a big fish from a local fisherman. We went home and opened it in half. And I SWEAR TO GOD the next part is 100% true.

We looked inside the fish, and didn't find the ring xD!!!
