Sign that the 3D Printer is Clogged

In my post from earlier today I stated that the 3D printer made the base of a model but then clogged. This is what it looked like when I noticed that happened.

It had been going on for a bit of time. The nozzle was just waving around in the air as if it were extruding the PLA. Many futile movements that were well calculated by the slicer software but were not translated into an actual print.
