Alien Pandemic

As the Delta coronavirus variant sprreads across California I watched the latest video from the "Today I Found Out" YouTube chaneel. It covers how NASA quarantined the Apollo 11 astronauts after they returned to Earth.

Science fiction rarely seems to portray a quarantine process for space travel. Sometimes that can be due to some in-universe explanation of how alien viruses and bacteria propagate. Other times probably due to the fact that even at faster than light speed travel between stars isn't instant and that time spent traveling acts like a quarantine process.

I guess if there is an alien disease that can't be brought back to Earth the astronauts aim the ship at the Sun and just fly toward it. I've heard sunlight is the best disinfectant.

I feel like War of the Worlds is the best example of the implications of space travel and viruses. Curious why the rest of the science fiction world kind of glosses over that topic though!
