It has so far been a quiet transfer window for Aston Villa, who have otherwise been in the habit of being extremely active in the transfer market since Jack Grealish and co. moved up from the Championship after the 18-19 season. Now, however, it looks like the Birmingham team has their first signing in place.

Sky Sport learns that Aston Villa will pick up French midfielder Morgan Sanson in Marseille Sanson joined Marseille in 2017 after impressing with Montpellier, and the now 26-year-old Frenchman has since been a fixture at Marseille's midfield.

Morgan Sanson is a versatile player who contributes both defensively and offensively from his midfield. The Frenchman can play in both central and offensive midfield, and has most recently played both places in Marseille's group matches in the Champions League.

According to Sky Sport, Morgan Sanson will arrive in Birmingham within the next week and he will then be available for Dean Smith's squad.
