On Wednesday night, Juventus were to try to pick up their first victory of this Serie A season when the Torino club on the road met Spezia. Conversely, Spezia should try to do what they did not manage last season. Namely, to snatch points from Juve.

It started as planned for Juventus, who after half an hour of play took the lead by returning Moise Kean. However, as has been the case throughout the season, the visitors did not manage to hold on to their lead. Just minutes after Kean's opening goal, Wojciech Szczesny had to pick the ball out of the net at the other end. Emmanuel Gyazi was the man with the last Spezia foot on the ball. His finish was lifted over the Polish Juventus goalkeeper with the help of unfortunate Rodrigo Bentancur's foot.

Already from the start of the second half, Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri made two changes. Alex Sandro entered at left back and Manuel Locatelli entered midfield. Two players with a significantly more offensive starting point than the two they replaced in Mattia De Sciglio and Bentancur.

Although Juve with the substitutions took a more offensive starting point, and tried to threaten in Spezia's back room, Juve got the first gasp of the half. 19-year-old Spezia striker Janis Antiste was sent in depth on a conversion. The Spezia player outwitted both Leonardo Bonucci and Szczesny, and then the home team was in front of Juventus for the first time ever in a Serie A context.

The home team's leading goal got Juventus further forward on the pitch, and the visitors put heavy pressure on the home team's defensive. With 25 minutes left of the showdown, it paid off. Spezia's Daniele Verde tried to break through in the middle repeatedly, but couldn't get past the visitors' defenders. The lost ball ended up on Juve's feet, and eventually with Federico Chiesa, who made a smart channel on the back Spezia defender, after which he sent the ball into goal for 2-2.

After the equalizer, Juventus really got to grips with the showdown. Just six minutes after the equalizer, Matthijs de Ligt made it really difficult for a home team that looked like a team trying to hold on to the result they had at the given time. The Dutch stopper sent the ball into the net for a Juve lead after a corner kick.

As the end of the match approached, Spezia tried to put more pressure on. It threw off several opportunities. Spezia captain Giulio Maggiore got the biggest of them with five minutes left when he suddenly stood completely free in front of Szczesny in the middle of the Juve field. However, the Italian did not manage to take advantage of the chance that the Polish goalkeeper got the pill.

After the referee's six - minute extra time, Juventus could therefore rejoice over the season's first victory in Serie A, which pulls them up over the relegation line. Spezia, on the other hand, may risk being below the line after this round if other Serie A results do not go their way.
