Hey folks 😁 Graham here.

Welcome to another Splinterlands Weekly Battle Challenge. Here is the original post if you want to enter a battle yourselves.

This week we have another Ability featured instead of a monster :)

THEME: RETALIATE
Ability: When hit with a Melee attack, Monsters with Retaliate have a chance (50%) of attacking their attacker.

This week it is Retaliate. I have not had much experience with this ability so this was a good chance to study it properly. I have really improved my game-play recently as i am starting to understand all the abilities more :) Completing the weekly battle challenge regularly has really helped me with this.

Also a couple of days ago i found out how inexpensive it is to rent out top level cards at PeakMonsters so i have really upped my game by renting out most of the good top level legendary cards like Yakon Zaku among others. I will feature many of these amazing cards in upcoming posts.

One of those new cards has the Retaliate Ability and i will be featuring this today.

The monster is War Chaang and as you can see it has some impressive stats with both Melee attack and Ranged Attack!. As i was renting i went for a level 2 Gold Foil card!

I do love a bit of Gold :) + The Artwork is really cool :) Who doesn't love a big warrior Helaphant!

They say that in the great battles on the other side of the world, Hellaphants were trained and outfitted as massive monstrosities of war. It was not generally believed that Hellaphants could be controlled until the Ferexia Torch began its Chaang Project. Hellaphants were abducted en masse from the Wastelands of the Unknown and taken to the training grounds near Mittreya's Hand. There, the Hellaphants were forged into soldiers to carry soldiers. They were molded into a new type of war machine, called Chaang.

Battle Info

This is a 24 mana level battle with all splinters allowed except Fire and Earth.

I only have 2 cards in this battle against 6!

Life vs Life

Ruleset = Super Sneak + Stampede

Super Sneak - All melee attack monsters have the Sneak ability.

Stampede - The Trample ability can trigger multiple times per attack if the trampled monster is killed

Battle Strategy + Line Up

Normally i would use a monster with the Retaliate ability in the first position as there is more chance of him being attacked by a melee attack monster however that is not the case with this ruleset. As he will also be granted the Sneak ability he can use his melee and ranged attack from any position and vice versa.

I think i have a great strategy for this battle since the Super Sneak Ruleset grants all melee attack monsters with the Sneak ability it is a good bet my opponent will fill his line up with as many melee attack monsters as they can.

This is where War Chaang comes in at the back with the Retaliate ability. All the opponents melee monsters will take a shot at Chaang only to have him retaliate instantly.

I will have my main tank Goblin Mech up front as is the case in many of my battles.

This is a dependable monster with great stats and now i finally made it up to the Gold level so this means that i can play him at level 5 for the first time :)

Summoner: Chanseus The Great with Repair, Triage and Resurrect abilities make him a great choice in any battle. I will be depending on him to keep Goblin Mech and War Chaang alive throughout this battle.

Battle Review

The warriors have entered the arena and my assumption was correct, the enemy has filled his line up with Melee attack monsters who will all feel the wrath of War Chaang's Retaliation when they utilize their Sneak ability.

Round1.png

Round 1 begins with my opponents Silvershield Knight attacking War Chaang who immediatley Retaliates. Cocatrice then also takes a swing at War Chaang but no Retaliation this time.

War Chaang then attacks Creeping Ooze with a melee attack and a ranged attack removing his armor.

The two tanks then have a go at each other with my Goblin Mech getting in a -3 hitpoint and the opponents Silvershield Palladin getting a -2.

Crystal Jaguar attacks War Chaang as the round ends leaving him with only 2 health points.!

round2.png

Round 2 begins with my Summoner supplying some much needed health and armor. He grants +2 armor for Goblin Mech and +3 health for War Chaang.

Silvershield Knight and Cocatrice both attack War Chaang again but with no retaliation this time sadly.

War Chaang now destroys Creeping ooze with 2 hits.

The two tanks clash again for the same hitpoints as before and it looks like Crystal Jaguar is about to kill War Chaang but he takes a shot and misses!!

round3.png

In round 3 we follow the same dance. Silvershield Knight attacks War Chaang for -2 hitpoints and he Retaliates for -2 also.

War Chaang attacks Truthspeaker removing her 2 armor points with 2 attacks.

Cocatrice now attacks War Chaang for -2 who then retaliates for -2.

Goblin Mech has just killed Silvershield Palladin and the round ends with Crystal Jaguar taking the lead and attacking Goblin Mech for -2 hitpoints.

round4.png

Silvershield Knight attacks War Chaang for -2 hitpoints but no retaliation. War chaang then destroys Truthspeaker.!

Cocatrice has now killed War Chaang only to see him magically resurrected in front of his eyes thanks to Chanseus The Great.

This round ends with Crystal Jaguar and Goblin Mech taking shots at each other but my Tank is impenetrable.

round5.png

Silvershield Knight attacks War Chaang who immediatley Retaliates for the same -2 hitpoints. Cocatrice then takes another swing at War Chaang but with no Retaliation this time.

War Chaang attacks Cocatrice but sadly misses with both hits!!

Cocatrice attacks War Chaang for his last 2 health but he does retaliate before dying so he has performed well.

The round ends triumphantly with Goblin Mech slaughtering Crystal Jaguar.

round6.png

The two monsters left on the battlefield both attack Goblin Mech for -2 hitpoints each but they are fighting a losing battle now.

Goblin Mech attacks Silvershield Knight but misses!!

round7.png

Silvershield Knight and Cocatrice attack again but cant make a dent. Goblin Mech now destroys Silvershield Knight with one blow.

round8.png

The Battle is now won with Goblin Mech killing Cocatrice.

Winning Battle

This was a really exciting battle and my strategy worked perfectly. War Chaang performed brilliantly with the aid of my summoners abilities and kept the back line busy will Goblin Mech took them out one by one.

I would definitely use this line up again especially with the Super Sneak Ruleset. I also look forward too trying out War Chaang in the first position in future battles,

Peace, Graham.

He actually put up a good fight! Love using war chaang in super sneak or opportunity rule sets. Especially in the back in this situation it gives a lot of value retaliating on it's attackers..

Funniest is when to monsters with retaliate get into a chain reaction hitting each other over and over :-p

Thanks for sharing! - @cieliss

War chaang is an incredible card, because in addition to attacking melee, it also has the ability to attack from a distance, plus its ability "Retaliate" makes it a great opponent !!
