My Actifit Report Card: January 9 2022

Hey everybody and thanks for stopping by!

The day began with online church. I just had this gut feeling that to go in person might not be the wisest choice, so we opted to attend online instead. Lots of people in my personal circle have been succumbing lately to Covid so I thought I’d listen to my gut.

Today dawned sunny and a bit warmer-highs in the forties for a change. There is still plenty of snow on the ground which has become more like a ‘snow cone’ type snow. It made today’s hike challenging, especially when you add the serious ice factor to it. We were a slippin’ and a sliding!

Just almost to the top of the hill in the first picture, there is a trail off to the left. We found bobcat tracks there. 😽

We took Keith and Lynne’s driveway to the Floor Trail up to the top of Bear Hollow and then took the Upper Trail back down to the off grid cabin, did the loop and headed for home. It was good to be out-especially so on the first sunny day in forever! 😎

The sunset was spectacular!

I made enough chili last night to take care of tonight’s dinner but will add some garlic bread to round it out. Yum!

That’s gonna be it for now. Take care everybody and have a blessed week ahead! 👣🐑🐾☕️☕️☕️😎🤗😁😽😴

It was good, although the clouds were back today along with a cold rain. Spring and summer will be here soon enough. Take care!💜🤗🌻

Entonces disfruta el frío, acá siempre está caliente. No conocemos la nieve en este lado del mundo🇻🇪 Debe ser muy bonito. Goza de todo eso antes de que se acabe. Y cuídate tú también.. ❣️

I don't think I would be able to go into the snow seeing how cold it is 😁 the sunsets are indeed spectacular.

Amazingly enough, you can work up a good sweat hiking in the snow, especially when you encounter the hills we do. We actually take layers off at times, and then as we cool down, put them back on, lol! Thanks for stopping by @princessbusayo! Take care!💜🤗

I have had one bear encounter a couple of years ago. No worries, it all turned out okay and really is hilarious looking back......

We were on the South Pass Side of the trail and there was a cross trail. I said to @silvertop, I wonder where this goes. So while he remained on the main trail, I took a little detour. I was standing on the crest of the hill, surveying the surroundings when I saw a movement in the gully below, about 50 feet or so from where I was. Coming up the ravine was a black bear; either a female or a young teenager based on size.

I came running back towards @silvertop, and said holy cow, there's a bear down there! He turned and started forward, only I had to stop him as he was on a collision course for the bear! Not that way I said, this way. I don't remember getting from the crest of the hill to the main trail at all. What's more I don't remember taking off running (which you are NOT supposed do!). I remember hearing him say don't run and had to make an effort not to do it. I turned around once and looked back to see him backing up the trail towards me with the bear spray out pointed to the rear.......

We headed up to Towhee Ridge and just sat on the picnic table for a while debating whether to call it good and go home or try to continue with the hike. In the end, we carried on and did not see the bear again.

A bear is NOT like a cougar. You never want to make eye contact with them as they consider it a challenge. If you encounter one head on, you stop and slowly back up, never turning your back on them. Once you are far enough away, you turn and move moderately. If the bear decides to attack, I've read you've got to fight as if you don't, you won't stand a chance. Fortunately for us, the bear did not see me, and I knew that, so I had no problem moving away as fast as I could.

I would much rather run into a cougar than a bear any day!

Sorry for the long response. Much love to you @queenstarr, and have a lovely day!💜🤗🌻
