"Excuses, excuses..." - A Story in 100 Words

"Acute pancreatitis?"

"Yup."

That was new. The previous late assignments had been blamed on the flu, her very hungry dog, an unscheduled power outage and the deaths of no fewer than five beloved grandparents. He wondered for the millionth time if there happened to be a large sign tattooed on his forehead that said LIE TO ME, I'M GULLIBLE :).

And even as he wondered, he knew he'd rather take that late paper than risk seeing another kid drop out. The last one still gave him nightmares. Too bad therapy was so expensive.

"Alright. Get it to me by Monday, okay...?"

This is the latest I've posted in a while but I'm trying to keep up the momentum. It takes time to develop a habit etc. Anyway, did you guess what today's random word was? I'll give you a moment to think about it...

It was 'acute'.
