21200 Schritte und öffentlicher Verkehr in der Dominikanischen Republik

Zugfahren ist hier nicht,
wirklich nicht. Es gibt zwar sowas wie eine U-Bahn in der Hauptstadt, aber mit Schienen kreuz und quer durchs Land, wohlmöglich sogar vernetzt und getaktet, das will hier niemand. Zumindest sieht es so aus, denn die meisten Schienen wurden im letzten Jahrhundert schon wieder abgebaut.

Hier fährt man Bus, standesgemäß in den Fernbussen von Caribe Tours, die mit ihren Fahrzeugen auch einen Paketdienst betrieben. Fahrdauer von Santo Domingo in den Norden nach Sosua etwas mehr als drei Stunden, nach Punta Cana genauso lange. Die Busse sind ganz anständig, sauber und pünktlich. Eine Fahrt wie beschrieben kostet rund 10 Dollar.

Von den großen Städten fährt man mit diesen kleineren Bussen weiter in umgebenden Städte und Dörfer, ohne Klimaanlage, aber auch pünktlich und jede Haltestelle bedienend. Eine Stunde Fahrt kostet ca zwei Dollar.

In den Städten selbst fahren diese Kleinbusse ohne Fahrplan. Dafür kommen sie aller paar Minuten und halten auch überall, wenn man sich bemerkbar macht. Hier kostet es z. B. bis in den Nachbarort Purto Plata 30Peso, also einen halben Dollar.

Für mich reicht das, ich bin noch nie mit einem dieser Motorradtaxis mitgefahren, ich traue Leuten einfach nicht, die überzeugt sind, dass ihr Motorrad mehr Leistung hat, wenn man den Schalldämpfer entfernt.
Auch ein Taxi hab ich nur einmal gebucht. Seitdem fahre ich ausschließlich Uber. Kein Stress wegen Nachverhandlungen und genügend Blech um mich herum als Schutz. Aber meist laufe ich sowieso. Und billiger ist Uber allemal.

Riding a train here is not,
really not. There is something like a subway in the capital, but with rails crisscrossing the country, probably even networked and clocked, no one wants that here. At least, that's what it looks like, because most of the rails have already been dismantled in the last century.

Here, people take the bus, as befits their status, in the long-distance buses of Caribe Tours, which also operated a parcel service with their vehicles. Travel time from Santo Domingo to the north to Sosua a little more than three hours, to Punta Cana just as long. The buses are quite decent, clean and punctual. A ride as described costs about $10.

From the major cities, these smaller buses continue to surrounding towns and villages, without air conditioning, but also on time and serving every stop. One hour ride costs about two dollars.

In the cities themselves, these minibuses run without a timetable. But they come every few minutes and stop everywhere if you make yourself noticed. Here, for example, it costs 30 pesos, or half a dollar, to get to the neighboring town of Purto Plata.

That's enough for me, I've never ridden in one of these motorcycle cabs, I just don't trust people who are convinced that their motorcycle has more power if you remove the muffler.
I've also only booked a cab once. Since then, I drive exclusively Uber. No stress because of renegotiations and enough sheet metal around me as protection. But mostly I walk anyway. And Uber is always cheaper.
