A little taste of home town at the urban city

If you do not know I was born in a small town called Ipoh at the North, here I'm telling you. People from Ipoh town are usually having a very sensitive taste bud and very picky about food they put into their mouth. Worst is, most if not all the pupil from that county has a very unique attitude that somewhat arrogant. Trust me, I'm speaking the truth and my ex-girlfriend a.k.a LazyMom said it all the time. So, what makes me put down this restaurant review?

First of all, the restaurant has a name of Kar Heong, which is a Romaized Cantonese word, meaning of home town. And it clearly stated the recipe is from Ipoh, which is where I'm from. So we decided to visit this restaurant just to try it out, see how good it is. By the look at the operating hour, 8:30am ~ 9:00pm? Never had I seen any Ipoh lads this hard working. Either they business in the morning, or lunch time only, or night shift only. I'm really beginning to worry if I'd came to the wrong place.

As soon as the dish were served, it proved they're worthy! The BBQ pork is lightly sweetened, I don't see excessive of coloring because there's not much redness in the sauce. The roast pork skin is crunchy, and the meat is tender. At the bottom of the roast pork meat are lightly red due to the spices, and it smell a dash of cinnamon in it. Marvelously nice and felt like melt in my mouth.

LazyMom were saying she need to go easy on the animal fat, so she ordered a piece of chicken breast, and I opt for the roasted chicken. The roasted chicken skin has a unique fragrant to it. There's not much extra chicken grease on the meat, it feels soft and tender to the chicken thigh. On top of all that, the soy cause that came with the dish is very appetizing and the soy taste is making my saliva glen start squirting. The chicken breast looks really rough, but as soon as I took a bite of it, it proved my eyes are wrong! I suspect they use the back of the knife to massage the breast meat so it become very tender and absorbing the soy sauce to it. It feels like you only need to take a piece of these breast meat, and you can chaw down a bowl of rice. Extremely appetizing.

Since the restaurant has an Ipoh recipe, flat noodle is a must have. Originally I wasn't putting much hope to it because I have not been enjoying much flat noodle in Kuala Lumpur nor Petaling Jaya. This, for the first time in my life, out of my home town, managed to experience something really similar to what I had in my home town. The flat noodle is soft, but yet it doesn't break! It goes with the chopstick, slurping into my mouth and splashing and dashing the soup everywhere. The soup has a little bit of seafood smell to it, my guess is they put in some shrimp shell to cook it to bring up the unique smell.

And butter rice for the kids, I took some to try, they're alright. I wasn't expect much from this, because it's nothing special in my home town when talking about making butter rice. For some reason, they have the best rice, yet they don't put enough butter to it. May be they think having less butter would make it "feel" healtheir? Soup is free and quite taste(if you don't know what they put in to cook it).

The restaurant environment is considerably clean. It's bright enough to eat with confident. Staff are well trained. I like the enthusiasm of their staff recommending and cross selling despite English nor Chinese were their first language. One thing needed to highlight, the air conditioning is indeed slightly lagging. It's better to go earlier, find a comfortable place and sit down to enjoy your food. We were a little too late for lunch, and had us stuck very near to the payment counter. The restaurant operator is nice enough to bring a fan for me, but who want's a fan blowing straight to my face whilst I am eating? Thanks but no thanks. Almost perfect, and I understand being crowded is not their fault, but having extra air conditioner would make things even better.

And the bill came. A total of RM39.60 for 4 person! That including fruit juice! What a marvelous experience, bringing me all the way back to the taste of my home town, and it's so easy on my pocket. Had I choose to go back to my home town, the toll road would have cost me atleast 1.5x of the price I paid for this lunch, not to mention time to travel and petrol needed to keep the car rolling.
