When Neymar depart Barcelona in the summer of 2018 to Paris Saint Germain for a world record of €220 Million, they plan to get a replacement for him and their attention was all on Coutinho who was in his best seasons in Liverpool that season. They made an approach and they agree on a transfer fee estimated to be €135 Million and the deal was sealed and Coutinho became a Barcelona player.

That season, Barcelona also signed Ousmane Dembele from Dortmund to fully strengthen their offensive. Coutinho in his first season was able to play in 54 games in all competitions, Laliga, Copa Del Rey and Uefa Champions league. He scored 11 goals and made 5 assists but his performance did not moved Barcelona at all because they expected him to do better. The second season Barcelona feel like selling him but they couldn't get any team who could pay the huge fee Barcelona used to bring him to the Camp Nou, Bayern Munich agreed to sign him on loan with no agreement to sign him on a permanent deal.

Coutinho us the only player with high wages in Barcelona with wages of €450,000 and Barcelona are ready to lessen the burden on the team and they wish to sell him in January transfer window. Newcastle United is mentioned to be Interested in paying his transfer fee and Barcelona are ready to sell him over to the newly bought Billionaire team.
