Jayson Werth 2008 Topps MLB Card - Philadelphia Phillies Outfielder

Jayson Werth is another great baseball player that I remember well from my childhood. Just like Shane Victorino, Werth was a key part of those great Phillies teams from 2007-2010. Werth had a nice long career that made him a lot of money. He was somewhat inconsistent here and there, but he was a solid player at the end of the day. Werth had solid power and was a double waiting to happen, he even led the league in doubles in 2010.

Werth's career is interesting because he had two distinct phases of his career that are pretty cool. Two solid legacies with two different franchises. Two different fanbases with fond memories of Werth, no doubt.

Werth played four seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies and seven years with the Washington Nationals, and fifteen in total.

Werth may have played with the Nationals the longest, but I would say that Werth's time with the Phillies was just as, if not more great and memorable than his time with the Nationals.

In four years with the Phillies, Werth achieved his only World Series Championship, his only All-Star selection, his highest home run total (36), and highs in several other major statistical categories. From 2008-2010, while with the Phillies, Werth played in 134, 159, and 156 games. This is the only time in Werth's fifteen year career that he played in triple digit games in consecutive seasons. Also, the seasons he played 156 and 159 games are the highest total games he's ever totaled as a pro.

So, in many ways Jayson Werth will be remembered as a Phillie forever!

Interestingly, this card is directly prior to Werth's best years of his athletic career and an official card from the '08 World Series roster! As a Phillies fan, this is a SPECIAL card! Glad to have it. It's also just a nice action shot in general. We are already half way through 2022, damn time flies.

Even though Werth's years as a Phillie were legendary, Werth was definitely a really solid player as a National as well. Werth hit over one hundred home runs in a Nationals uniform, and was so well liked and appreciated that he is a member of the Washington Nationals Ring of Honor!

The guy is a dang mid-Atlantic/Northeast baseball legend, playing 11 years in the NL East!

Werth's MLB Stats over his fifteen year career (2002-2005, 2007-2017) include:

  • 1x World Series Champ
  • 1x All-Star
  • 1,465 Hits
    • 229 Home Runs
    • 300 Doubles
    • 22 Triples
  • 799 R.B.I.'s
  • .267 Batting Average
  • 132 Stolen Bases

I'm not a tax expert or anything, and who knows what type of endorsement money he made or whatever, but contractually Werth made over 136 million dollars over the span of his career!

What a great career for Mr. Werth, thanks for the memories and thanks for helping bring Philly a World Series!!
